Al AshkharahAl Ashkharah (Arabic: (named after a poisonous desert plant) is a town in the Ash Sharqiyah Region of Oman and is 80km from Ras al-Hadd and 90km from Ras al-Jinz. It is part of the J'alan area and can be considered as the key city of this area in addition to Ja'lan. The city's main economic activity is fishing and is famous for catching big fish from shore. It is located at around 22°34′0″N 59°31′44″E / 22.56667°N 59.52889°E, and is 93 miles (150 km) southeast of the Omani capital Muscat. Jazīrat MaşīrahMasirah or Mazeira Island (Arabic: مصيرة‎‎) is an island off the East coast of mainland Oman and the largest island of Oman. It is 95 km long north-south, between 12 and 14 km wide, with an area of about 649 km², and a population estimated at 12,000 in 12 villages mainly in the north of the island (9,292 as of the census of 2003, of which were 2,311 foreigners). Administratively, it forms one of the eleven provinces (Arabic: ولاية, plural ولايات, transliteration: wilayah, plural wilayat) of the Ash Sharqiyah Region.
