Al Dhahirah (Arabic: الظاهرة; Az̧ Z̧āhirah) is one of the governorates (muhafazah) of Oman. It was previously a region (mintaqah). It became a governorate on 28 October 2011.

MāzimMazim is a village in Ad Dhahirah Region, in northeastern Oman. The village lies southeast of Abu Silah and northwest of As Subaykhi along Highway 21, which connects the village to Ibri, the district capital. The village contains a large green area of trees to the west of the main road entering the village. The 1917 Gazetteer of Arabia describes Mazim as being a hamlet, located about 25 miles northwest of Ibri, and being fortified with walls. Tanker filler stations have been proposed in Mazim. Aş ŞubaykhīAs Subaykhi is a village in Ad Dhahirah Region, in northeastern Oman.The village is located just off Highway 21, south of Mazim and about 20 miles northwest of Ibri. Over half of the village is covered in green trees and agricultural land.A hill area to the south of the village is known as Jebel Subaykhi.The central government have discouraged Iqtabi families from moving into As Subaykhi. Umm as SamīmThe Umm al Samim (Arabic: أم (also known as the Umm as Samim) is a quicksand area on the eastern edge of the Rub al'khali desert largely within Oman's borders. The waters, such as they are, drain into this brackish low-lying closed basin area off the Omani mountains and the wadis of the Rub al'khali. The Al Samim (known locally as the 'Mother of Poisons' or the 'Mother of Worries') is a salt marsh with a solid-looking crust but can be very treacherous when broken through. Ḩaql FuhūdFahud is a permanent oil camp and oil field in the middle of the central plain area of Oman, named after the nearby Jebel Fahud believed to mean \"Leopard Mountain\" from the time when wild leopards used to roam the area.
