ManamaManama (Arabic: Al Manāma) is the capital and largest city of Bahrain, with an approximate population of 157,000 people. Long an important trading center in the Persian Gulf, Manama is home to a very diverse population. After periods of Portuguese and Persian control and invasions from the ruling dynasties of Saudi Arabia and Oman, Bahrain established itself as an independent nation during the 19th century period of British hegemony. SitrahSITRA (Finnish: Suomen itsenäisyyden juhlarahasto), the Finnish Innovation Fund, was founded in 1967 as a part of the Bank of Finland. Currently it is an independent public foundation which operates directly under the supervision of the Finnish Parliament. SITRA's president is Mikko Kosonen. SITRA has an endowment valued at €651 million. The funding comes only from the profits from the endowment; SITRA does not spend the endowment or receive tax-generated government funding. Umm al ḨaşşamUmm Al Hassam (Arabic: أم الحصم‎‎) (trans. Mother of Sea Shells) is a middle-class neighbourhood on the southern coast of Manama, which is the capital of Bahrain. The neighborhood is home to many members of Bahrain's local Jewish community. SanadSanad is a town in Bahrain. The town neighbors Isa Town, Riffa and Jurdab. Sanad is mainly a residential area. Some of the restaurants located in Sanad are Hardee's, Dairy Queen, McDonald's, KFC, Papa Johns, and Yum Yum Tree. The town is divided into four regions: Al Nasfah, New Sanad, Old Sanad, and the Estiqlal Highway, a major highway in Bahrain that connects the towns of Riffa, Askar, and Isa Town. KarbābādKarbabad (Arabic: is a village situated in the northern part of the Kingdom of Bahrain, along the northern coastline bordering the Persian Gulf. The village is famously known for being close to the location of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Qal'at al-Bahrain. The village was known for its beach, however in recent years, land reclamation has resulted in the once sea-front village to be up to 2 km inwards. Its territory is now in the Capital and Northern Governorate. It is about 3 km west of the capital Manama. It is neighbored by the villages of Al Daih and Sanabis to the north, Al Musala and Tashan to the south, Jibilat Habshi and Muqsha to the west. The city's population is about 11,000.
