The Žilina Region (Slovak: Žilinský kraj; Polish: Kraj zyliński) is one of the eight Slovak administrative regions and consists of 11 districts (okresy) and 315 municipalities, from which 18 have a town status. The region was established in 1923, however, in its present borders exists from 1996. It is more industrial region with several large towns. Žilina is region administrative center and a strong cultural environment is in Martin.

Okres Kysucké Nové MestoKysucké Nové Mesto District (okres Kysucké Nové Mesto) is a district in the Žilina Region of northern central Slovakia, in the Kysuce region. It is entirely surrounded by the Žilina and Čadca districts. Apart from the city districts in Bratislava and Košice, its area is the smallest of all Slovakia districts, although population density is the second highest in Slovakia. The district had been established in 1923 and in its current borders exists from 1996. Core of the district economy is engineering industry, performed by several companies foremost in Kysucké Nové Mesto industrial park. Demänovská JaskyňaDemänovská Ice Cave or Demänovská ľadová jaskyňa (in Slovak) is an ice cave in the Demänovská Valley (Low Tatra) in Slovakia. It was first mentioned in 1299 and is one of oldest known caves in Europe. After the opening of Demänovská jaskyňa Slobody in 1924, interest in this cave declined. It was reopened to the public after the reconstruction of wooden stairs and electrical lighting in 1952, with 680 m accessible out of the 1,975 m. Currently, the route for visitors is 850 m long and takes about 45 minutes to traverse.Show on map

KysucaThe Kysuca (Hungarian: Kiszuca) is a 66.3 km long river in northern Slovakia. It is a right tributary to the Váh. The river gives name to the informal Kysuce region. Its source is near the village of Makov. At first, the river flows in northwestern direction, where it flows around Javorníky on the right and Kysucké Beskydy mountains on the left side, passing through the town of Turzovka until the town of Čadca, where it turns south, between Javorníky on the right and Kysucká vrchovina mountains on the left side, passing Horelica, Krásno nad Kysucou, Kysucké Nové Mesto until it pours to Váh in Žilina. In the valley of Kysuca south of Čadca, a railway and an international road (currently E75, in the future D3) passes through it.Show on map
Nádrž Liptovská MaraLiptovská Mara is a reservoir in northern Slovakia, on the Váh river near Liptovský Mikuláš, in the Liptov region. The dam is named after one of the inundated villages. It was built in 1965-1975. The area of the reservoir is 22 km², max. depth is 45 m and the capacity is 360 mil. m³. During construction, nine villages were inundated and a major railway and road relocated. The main purpose of this dam is to prevent floods, although it also generates electricity. Today, the dam is used as a recreational site. The reconstructed Celtic oppidum Havránok is situated on a hill above the dam.Show on map

Suchá HoraSuchá Hora transmitter is a facility for FM- and TV-transmission on 1,231.6 metres high mountain Skalka (Kremnica Mountains) near Banská Bystrica in Slovakia. Suchá Hora transmitter uses as antenna mast a 312 metres tall guyed tubular mast, which is one of the tallest structure of Slovakia and one of the highest elevated supertall structures in Europe.The mast of Suchá Hora transmitter was built in 1960. The transmitter went on service on October 28, 1960. In 1961 a storm blasted the roof of the transmitter building away and in 1962 the 7 ton weighing TV broadcasting antenna, which was covered with ice, fell from 300 metres height to the ground and impacted close to the transmitter building. ČertovicaČertovica (Hungarian: Ördöglakodalma-hágó) is a mountain pass in the Low Tatras mountain range in Slovakia. It connects regions of Liptov and Horehronie. With 1,232 metres (4,042 ft) AMSL, it is the highest paved mountain pass in Slovakia. It is open all year round, however it can be rarely closed during the winter because of the severe weather conditions. The pass was daily crossed by more than 2000 vehicles as of 2005. On the pass is also situated a minor ski resort and a chalet offering accommodation. The pass is also an important starting or endpoint for many hiking trips because it lies in the middle of the range and is close to some of the range's popular summits as the highest Ďumbier and third highest Chopok.Show on map
TlstáTlstá (meaning fat in Slovak) is a mountain in the Bralná Fatra part of the Greater Fatra Range, measuring 1,373.3 m (4,506 ft). It is located over the Turiec Valley, rising steaply nearly 1,000 m (3,300 ft) above the valley bottom. It has rugged slopes with many rock spires and rock terraces under the grass-covered summit. With its well-preserved forests, rare plants and many karst caves in the massif, the mountain and its surrounding area were declared a National Nature Reserve in 1981, covering an area of 30.66 km2 (11.84 sq mi). Together with the opposite Ostrá Mountain and Gader Valley beneath them, they create one of the most valuable and picturesque parts of the Greater Fatra Range.Show on map

The range is part of the Central Beskids, which are themselves part of the Outer Western Carpathians. The Orava Magura is a sandstone massif, densely forested, with primarily spruce and beech, with cultivated birch and hazel. On the southern side there is one of the largest avalanche slopes in Slovakia.
