The South West Community Development Council (abbreviation: SW CDC) is one of five Community Development Councils (CDCs) set up across the Republic of Singapore to aid in local administration of governmental policies and schemes. They are funded in part by the government although they are free to engage in fund-raising activities. The South West Community Development Council (CDC) was formed on 24 November 2001, with the official appointment of Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon as the Mayor of South West District. Mrs Yu-Foo was the first woman mayor. The South West district spans the south-western region of Singapore, covering a third of Singapore's land area. The District has about 220,000 households with over 750,000 residents. The District has a characteristically high concentration of industrial estates, including the Jurong Islands and Tuas area. Jurong TownJurong /dʒuːrɒŋ/ (Chinese: 裕 廊, Tamil: ஜூரோங்) is a geographical region located at the south-westernmost point of the West Region of Singapore. Although mostly vaguely defined, the region's borders roughly correspond with the planning areas of Jurong East, Jurong West, Boon Lay, Pioneer and Tuas, along with Jurong Island in the Western Islands cluster and the southernmost portions of the Western Water Catchment. Should it be described at its greatest historical extent, the region can also include present-day Bukit Batok as well. The region also covers several offshore islands as well, including Pulau Damar Laut and Pulau Samulun, both of which are located within the planning areas of Jurong East and Boon Lay respectively; along with the aforementioned Jurong Island. Bukit Panjang New TownBukit Panjang (Chinese: 武吉班让, Tamil: formerly known as Zhenghua and often abbreviated as Bt Panjang, is a planning area and residential town located in the West Region of Singapore. A portion of this town is situated on a low-lying elongated hill. The planning area is bounded by Bukit Batok to the west, Choa Chu Kang to the northwest, Sungei Kadut to the north, the Central Water Catchment to the east and Bukit Timah to the south. TengahTengah is a planning area and future HDB town located within the West Region of Singapore. It is bounded to by Choa Chu Kang to the northeast, Jurong East and Jurong West to the south, Bukit Batok to the east and the Western Water Catchment to its west and north. Formerly a military restricted area, Tengah is currently reserved for future housing developments slated for completion by 2018, making it Singapore's newest Housing and Development Board town since the development of Punggol in the 1990s.
