El Callao (/kɑːˈjaʊ/; [kaˈʎa.o] or [kaˈʝa.o]) is the chief seaport of Peru. The city is also called Provincia Constitucional (Constitutional Province), the only province of the Callao Region. The Historic Centre of Callao is located 15 km (9.3 mi) west of Historic Centre of Lima , the country's capital, and is part of the Lima Metropolitan Area. Callao borders Lima Province on the north, east and south, and the Pacific Ocean on the west.

La PuntaLa Punta is a district of the Constitutional Province of Callao in Peru, and one of the seven districts that make up the port city of Callao. It is located in a peninsula in the western part of the province and is almost entirely surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, except on its northeastern side, where it is bordered by downtown Callao. CallaoCallao is one of the seven districts of the Constitutional Province of Callao in the Callao Region, Peru. It is also the downtown district of the city of Callao. The Chillón River marks the district's northern border with Ventanilla. On the east, the Callao district is bordered by the Carmen de la Legua-Reynoso as well as the Lima Province's districts of San Martín de Porres and downtown Lima. The Bellavista and the La Perla districts are located to the southeast, while La Punta borders the district on the west. The Pacific Ocean borders the province on the west and south.Show on map
Carmen De La Legua ReynosoCarmen de la Legua Reynoso is a district of the Constitutional Province of Callao in Peru, and one of the seven districts that comprise the port city of Callao. In 1952 Carmen de la Legua Reynoso was founded by Lopez Pasos, Alejandro Ladron De Guevara, and Barios Medina. Antero Lizano, a pioneer of the city was elected the Organizational Secretary who established the zoning for Carmen de la Legua and distributed land to residents. Covering more than half of the province's territory, it is Callao's largest district. The current mayor of Ventanilla is Omar Alfredo Marcos Arteaga. It was officially established as a district on January 28, 1969. Jorge Chávez International AirportJorge Chávez International Airport (IATA: LIM, ICAO: SPJC, formerly SPIM), known as Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez in Spanish, is Peru's main international and domestic airport. It is located in Callao, 11 kilometers (7 mi) from the Historic Centre of Lima and 17 km (11 mi) from Miraflores. Callao is the port city now fully integrated with Lima, the nation's capital. In 2008, the airport handled 8,288,506 passengers and 98,733 aircraft movements. In 2009, the airport handled 8,786,973 passengers and 104,966 aircraft movements, which although small, was one of the fastest increases in the Americas. Castillo Real FelipeThe Real Felipe Fortress was built to defend the main Peruvian port and the city of Lima from pirates and corsairs during colonial times. The fortress was pivotal in the 1866 naval battle between a Spanish fleet sent to South America to \"reclaim\" its colonies and land batteries in the coast of Peru. Isla FrontónEl Frontón is an island off the coast of Callao, Peru. For much of El Frontón's history, the island was used as a prison. Fernando Belaúnde Terry, who was twice president of Peru, was imprisoned on the island as a political prisoner. During his imprisonment, Belaúnde Terry made an unsuccessful attempt to swim to freedom. Hugo Blanco was also imprisoned on the island. The behavior of the Peruvian Government during the uprising in the prison led to censure by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.Show on map
